Schneller Foundation
Schneller Foundation – Education for peace
“When many ordinary people take many small steps they can change the face of the world.” Margrit Rupp is convinced of this. She is the Director of the head office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg and has been deputy chair of the foundation since its inception in 2007.
Working for the future
The Schneller Foundation proves the truth of the above saying. It is the main funding body of the Johann Ludwig Schneller School in Lebanon and the Theodor Schneller School in Jordan. They have the task of educating children from underprivileged backgrounds for peace and tolerance and offering them long-term life chances through good schooling and vocational training.
Commitment in the Middle East
The Schneller Foundation seeks to foster tolerance and peaceful cooperation between different religions and traditions. Christian and Muslim children live side by side at both schools. “I regard your commitment to children in countries of the Middle East as extraordinarily worthwhile,” underlines Prof. Dr. Herta Däubler-Gmelin, a member of the board of trustees. The work of such schools is important, she says. Its purpose is to give children hope in difficult times, teach them values, enable them to live together peacefully and provide them with a solid education.
Progress thanks to donors
In 2008 the Schneller Foundation financed the renovation of premises for Christian and Muslim education in the Theodor Schneller School. In 2009 it funded a modern milling machine for the carpenter’s shop at the Johann Ludwig Schneller School, which is needed for the introduction of technical training alongside normal schooling. Furthermore, the Theodor Schneller School received a subsidy to renovate a wing of the boarding school, which is to accommodate girls from summer 2010.
In the 150th anniversary year of the Schneller Schools, we are looking for 100 new donors who can contribute at least EUR 1500 to help the foundation grow.
