EMS Partners in China

China Christian Council (CCC)
In 1951, the Protestant communities in China organised themselves into what is known as the “Three-Self Patriotic Movement” (self-government, self-support, self-propagation). During and around the time of the “Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution” between 1966-1976, religious activities were impossible and Christians were prosecuted. At the end of the 1970s, Christians were again able to practice their religion. In 1980, the China Christian Council (CCC) was founded and officially represented all the Protestant churches in the country. The EMS maintains friendly ties with the CCC.

Amity Foundation
The Chinese social welfare foundation called Amity Foundation is the second largest organisation of Protestant Christians in China. In close cooperation with the China Christian Council and with the help of Christians from all over the world, it carries out educational and social programmes based on Christian values in many provinces. Apart from various social welfare institutions and relief campaigns during natural disasters, the Amity Foundation supports the Amity Teacher Programme. The aim of this programme is to enable young people to learn foreign languages, improve their job prospects and make intercultural experiences. Every two years the EMS sends a qualified teacher to work in this programme.

The annual project for 2008 Women living in a strange land – mission and migration focuses the attention of the EMS Fellowship to the situation of migrant women in East Asia and other countries. Groups and individuals are invited to engage creatively with the issue and take part in a join-in campaign.
