Liaison Desk India
The India Desk is one of the EMS liaison desks. The task of the Liaison Desk is to serve as a connecting link between our Indian partners and the German member churches and organisations as well as the ecumenical community. Through the India Liaison Desk the EMS has been working together with the Church of South India (CSI) and theological universities and training centres , for example in Bangalore, Mangalore and Triovandrum, since 1972. The partnership between the EMS and the Church of South India has its roots in the work of the Basle Mission in India.
The scope of work of the India Liaison Desk comprises:
- Organising and coordinating ecumenical staff exchanges with the CSI and partner institutions.
- Sending young adults to CSI institutions, such as homes for the disabled, as part of the Volunteer Programme of the EMS.
- Providing financial support for rural parishes, Dalit programmes, programmes for women’s work and theological training.
- Promoting direct partnerships between church districts of the EMS member churches and Indian partner dioceses.
- Implementing general PR work, organising partnership seminars and organising India conferences together with the Bad Boll Protestant Academy.
