SOUTH-SOUTH-EXCHANGE
In the South-South-Exchange volunteers of the churches within the EMS fellowship in Africa, Asia and the Middle East go to other churches and institutions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Interested in volunteering?
Would you like to find out more about what you can do within the framework of the Ecumenical Youth Volunteers Programme?
Please contact a representative of your home church or a member of the EMS Mission Council. With his or her endorsement we will be happy to send you our Expression of Interest and application form.
Places of service for volunteers are:
* Kindergartens and Nurseries
* Church Communities
* Youth and Women Groups
* Outreach Social Work
* Bible Schools
These places of service generally correlate to the volunteer´s interests and abilities. The working hours are the same as those of the local staff. In the hosting congregation, you will be assigned a mentor. A mentoring committee will introduce you to the various aspects of volunteering and answer questions concerning culture, religion, social structures and leisure.
Financial Matters
1. EMS handles registration for health-, accident- and third-party insurance and covers the expenses pertaining thereto. (Additional costs due to illness, accident or a third-party cause that are not covered by the insurance cannot be reimbursed by EMS.)
2. EMS shall take out the monthly allowance.
3. The travel costs will be partly covered by the EMS and your home church.
4. The hosting congregation provides free accommodation and food.
5. The volunteers are responsible for any additional personal expenditure (e.g. additional food, telephone calls, letters and cost of overweight luggage).
The EYVP gives administrational help to arrange the placement of a young Christian in an institution of other churches in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
EMS Fellowship
The Association of Churches and Missions in South Western Germany (EMS) is a fellowship of 23 churches and five mission societies located in ten countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe working towards worldwide mission and inter-church cooperation. Through the Ecumenical Youth Volunteers Programme, the volunteers have opportunity to aquaint themselves with the worldwide church, gain intercultural experience, bring their insights to bear upon congregational life and to broaden their own personal horizon.
