Centenary of the World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh on June 6th
Materials for Worship Services on Mission

“Witnessing to Christ today” is the motto of the conference taking place on the occasion of the centenary of the World Missionary Conference of 1910. 250 representatives of churches and mission organisations from different denominations and mission traditions from all continents will meet in the Scottish town of Edinburgh. From 2nd to 6th June 2010 they will discuss results of an international study process, which deals with the foundations for mission, Christian mission among other faiths, mission and power, mission spirituality and other topics.

Experiences from the EMS-Focus 2009-2012 “Giving Account of Our Hope – Christian Witness in a Pluralistic World” will be introduced by Ulrike Schmidt-Hesse, Head of Mission and Partnership Department in EMS. At the Jubilee celebrations in the historical assembly hall the participants will commit themselves to strike future-orientated paths of mission.

Invitation to congregations
EMS invites congregations to celebrate a worship service on the topic around 6th June and to accompany the international meeting by intercession. For that purpose, it offers worship materials in German and in English. They can also be utilized for ecumenical worship services on Pentecost or in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

Learning to live in Peace
150 years Schneller Schools in the Near East is exemplary for a long-term and successful support. Today, both Schneller Schools in Jordan and in Lebanon are forerunners of a modern, holistic education, which encourages a peaceful living-together. The foundation was laid in Jerusalem in 1860 by Johann Ludwig Schneller, a Pietist from Wurttemberg. On occasion of the jubilee you are asked to send your peace-wish to the children. Please join in our postcard-campaign!
