Women and Gender

The EMS ››› Mission Statement „Common Witness“ states:

“Our witness finds expression in signs of living solidarity. As reconciling and healing communities we share life, also suffering.
We also strive for a just community of women and men and in all generations.“

To come closer to this aim the EMS Women and Gender Desk was established in 2001. The task of this desk is to empower women and to raise awareness for women and gender issues in all EMS churches and mission societies. This is realized by the International EMS Women’s Network with women from 27 churches in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East but also by specific women advancement via EMS projects for women.

The publication of the Women and Gender Desk ››› OUR VOICES (pdf~1,2mb) offers an important possibility for mutual exchange.

The EMS Gender Policy was adopted by the Mission Council in November 2006 and contains guidelines for more gender justice. These guidelines were broadly discussed over a period of two years with all EMS churches and mission societies. The ››› EMS Gender Policy is available in English, German and Indonesian.

Learning to live in Peace
150 years Schneller Schools in the Near East is exemplary for a long-term and successful support. Today, both Schneller Schools in Jordan and in Lebanon are forerunners of a modern, holistic education, which encourages a peaceful living-together. The foundation was laid in Jerusalem in 1860 by Johann Ludwig Schneller, a Pietist from Wurttemberg. On occasion of the jubilee you are asked to send your peace-wish to the children. Please join in our postcard-campaign!
